The DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) is back in action this weekend, with Matchday 1 kicking off from Saturday to Sunday. All reserve teams from Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs will compete in this youth-focused competition.

While the DDC is primarily about crowning a champion, it also serves as a crucial scouting ground for PSL senior teams. Standout players often get promoted to the first team, and many have gone on to establish successful professional careers.

Over the years, we’ve seen the rise of stars like Mohau Nkota, Relebohile Mokofeng, and Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who have become key players for Orlando Pirates’ first team. Nkota even took his talents abroad, showing the platform’s power in developing top-tier talent.

Speaking of international success, Tylon Smith (now at Queens Park Rangers) and Shandre Campbell (currently with Club Brugge) are both proud graduates of the DDC, having represented Stellenbosch and SuperSport United (Siwelele FC), respectively.

Other recent standouts include Mfundo Vilakazi, Malibongwe Khoza, Kutlwano Letlhaku, and Siyabonga Mabena, all of whom have made the step up to the first team (Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns) after impressive DDC campaigns.

Kaizer Chiefs, the reigning champions, will be eager to defend their title. However, every club will be fighting hard to win the cup and build a name for their youth prospects.
