Phalaborwa United Football Club have parted ways with Head Coach Tefu Mashamaite, just over a month after his appointment.

Mashamaite, who took charge of the club on September 16, 2025, oversaw only two matches, both in the Nedbank Cup preliminary rounds. He began his short tenure with a 1–0 victory over Selwana White Vultures, but a 4–3 penalty shootout defeat to Nkowankowa Continental FC in the following round brought his brief stint to an end.

In an official statement issued on Saturday, October 25, 2025, Phalaborwa United confirmed that the decision followed the team’s early Nedbank Cup exit and a review of its overall performance and direction.

“The club’s management determined that a change in leadership was necessary as part of its review of the team’s performance and overall direction,” reads part of the statement.

The club thanked Mashamaite for his contribution during his short spell and wished him well in his future endeavors. Preparations are already underway to appoint a new head coach, with an announcement expected soon.
