Kaizer Chiefs have officially launched their long-anticipated women’s team, marking a significant step forward in the growth of women’s football in South Africa.

The newly formed side, Kaizer Chiefs Ladies, was unveiled on 31 March 2026, with the club positioning the initiative as more than just an entry into the women’s game but a commitment to creating meaningful pathways for female footballers.

Speaking on the milestone, the club emphasised the importance of recognising pioneers who laid the foundation for women’s football, including community structures such as Springs Home Sweepers and the contributions of figures like Joseph Mkhonza. The initiative aims to inspire young girls across the country to pursue opportunities within the sport.

The squad consists of 24 players, blending experienced campaigners with emerging young talent. Headlining the group is Mamello Makhabane, whose experience at the highest level brings leadership and quality to the team. She is joined by a diverse group of players including Loreta Mokoena, Lumka Qhelekqa, Boitumelo Mokoena, Zanele Kunyaname, and others, forming a well-balanced unit expected to compete strongly.
