Magesi FC reignited their fight against relegation with a commanding 3-0 victory over Marumo Gallants in a high-stakes clash at Seshego Stadium on Tuesday evening.
With both sides battling to avoid the drop, the encounter carried significant weight at the bottom end of the table. Magesi rose to the occasion with a clinical performance, taking control early and never looking back.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Godfrey Mashigo, who capitalised on defensive hesitation to give Magesi a vital lead. Gallants struggled to find rhythm as Magesi dictated the tempo and created the better chances throughout the first half.
Magesi doubled their advantage in the 68th minute when Motsie Matima found the back of the net, putting further pressure on Gallants. As the visitors pushed forward in search of a response, they were left exposed at the back, allowing Thabang Sibanyoni to seal the victory with a late strike in the 89th minute.
The result sees Magesi close the gap in the relegation battle, moving within a single point of both Marumo Gallants and Orbit College FC, who are level on 18 points. The emphatic win significantly strengthens Magesi’s push to avoid relegation as the Betway Premiership season edges closer to its conclusion.
Elsewhere, Chippa United, currently fourth from bottom, secured an important victory over Siwelele FC at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in a match played concurrently. A solitary goal from Sinoxolo Kwayiba in the 56th minute proved decisive, as Chippa claimed maximum points to move five points clear of Marumo Gallants, creating breathing room between themselves and the bottom three.
Looking ahead, Magesi next turnout in a Limpopo derby against Sekhukhune United at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, 11 April, with kickoff scheduled for 17:30. Meanwhile, Marumo Gallants will host fellow strugglers Orbit College FC at Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium on Sunday, 12 April.
With Magesi still holding a game in hand amongst the bottom three and Gallants and Orbit left with seven matches each, the run-in is finely poised.
