Kaizer Chiefs secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over AmaZulu FC in their Betway Premiership clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The decisive moment came in the 68th minute when Glody Lilepo found the back of the net to hand Amakhosi the lead in a tightly contested encounter.
However, the forward’s celebrations proved costly as he received a second yellow card for taking off his shirt after scoring, reducing Chiefs to ten men for the closing stages of the match.
Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Peterson was named Man of the Match after producing crucial saves to keep AmaZulu at bay throughout the encounter.
Speaking after the match, Peterson praised the team’s effort and determination.
“It’s only by dedication and hard work to be where we are as a team right now, we really worked hard on ourselves.”
AmaZulu suffered another setback late in the game when goalkeeper Olwethu Mzimela, was forced off due to injury in the dying minutes of the match in the 89th minute.
Despite their late pressure and numerical advantage, Usuthu were unable to find an equaliser as Chiefs held firm to secure all three points away from home.
In another Betway Premiership fixture played simultaneously, Richards Bay FC hosted Sekhukhune United at uMhlathuze Sports Complex.
