The NWU Soccer Institute and Hope FC have secured promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship after impressive victories in the semi-finals of the SAFA ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs at Umthatha Stadium.

NWU Eagles booked their place in South Africa’s professional football ranks with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Mkhambathi FC. After a goalless first half, the Eagles returned from the break with greater urgency, scoring twice in the second half, including a crucial penalty, to seal the win and promotion.

Meanwhile, Hope FC continued their remarkable rise by defeating NC Professionals 4-1 in the second semi-final, securing promotion to the Championship in their first season in the ABC Motsepe League.

The promotions mark a significant achievement for both clubs. For the NWU Soccer Institute, the success comes as the programme approaches its 20th anniversary, representing one of the most important milestones in its history. For Hope FC, the achievement caps off a dream debut campaign at this level.

With promotion secured, attention now turns to the national final on Sunday, where NWU Eagles and Hope FC will battle for the title of 2025/26 SAFA ABC Motsepe League National Champions and national bragging rights.
