Betway has unveiled a group of 23 South African supporters who will form the “Betway Squad” for the upcoming clash between the Springboks and Barbarian F.C. on 20 June in Gqeberha.

Following thousands of fan entries nationwide, the selected supporters will have their names featured on the back of Springbok shorts for one match only, replacing the Betway logo in a unique fan-driven activation dubbed “the 23 behind the 23.”

The initiative brings together lifelong rugby fans, first-time matchgoers, and supporters from across South Africa, each with personal stories tied to the green and gold. Among them are individuals with deep generational rugby connections, including Yvette Van Der Westhuizen, whose father represented Eastern Province against the British & Irish Lions in 1974.

Other selected fans include community-based players and passionate supporters whose lives have been shaped by rugby culture in towns such as Schauderville and King William’s Town.

SA Rugby CEO Rian Oberholzer said the campaign reflects the vital role supporters play in the national team’s journey, while Betway Africa Head of Sponsorship Jason Shield described it as a tribute to the fans behind the Springboks.

The selected group will travel to Gqeberha for match week, attend the Springboks’ captain’s run, and experience a full matchday programme before the team opens its 2026 season against the Barbarians.

The Betway Squad list includes 23 supporters drawn from across the country, all set to experience a once-in-a-lifetime connection with the national team on match day.
