The rivalry between the Springboks and All Blacks has been captured in a symbolic way. Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry (RGR), presented by Castle Double Malt, unveiled a unique trophy designed to capture and represent the bond between the two rugby nations.

Officially unveiled on Wednesday, the trophy is made up of two separate halves that are brought together using magnetism, reflecting the connection between South Africa and New Zealand, despite their fierce competition on the rugby field. A definitive physical representation of a rivalry that is built on opposition but ultimately bound by a shared passion for rugby.

The concept behind the design was intended to capture the essence of what has become one of rugby’s most celebrated rivalries. Amongst other things, competition and mutual respect have developed alongside more than a century of Test history.

This trophy forms part of the RGR experience, which aims to celebrate the history, intensity and the enduring relationship between South Africa and New Zealand.

The launch brought together current rugby leadership and former captains from both nations. Also in attendance, were representatives from the South African Breweries and the Double Malt brand.

Simply put, the winners of the four Test Tour will be presented with both halves of the trophy following the final Test in Baltimore in USA, which will take place on 12th September 2026. Should the series end in a draw, each nation will retain one half of the trophy.

The first public sighting will happen at the first test this weekend, when the All Blacks and the Springboks face off at the 10bet Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg.
