Mamelodi Sundowns defender Aubrey Modiba has called on his teammates to respond strongly when they face AmaZulu in Wednesday’s Betway Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld.
The Brazilians head into the encounter looking to bounce back from their MTN8 semi-final first-leg defeat to Lamontville Golden Arrows, with Modiba acknowledging that AmaZulu will provide another stern test.
Playing against AmaZulu is not going to be easy. They are a difficult team to play against, but we have to take the positives from our game against Arrows and look to do better against AmaZulu,” Modiba said.
With Sundowns playing in front of their home supporters, the left-back stressed the importance of making Loftus Versfeld count by collecting maximum points.
It is important for us to do well at home and collect points. It is always good playing at home because our supporters come in numbers and they play a big role,” he added.
Modiba expects a competitive encounter against an AmaZulu side that comes into the match well rested and boasting quality players, but insists Sundowns remain confident in their own abilities.
AmaZulu is a well-rested team going into this encounter, and they have good players. It is going to be pound for pound, but we also have good players and we believe in ourselves.”
With the club’s “We Will Not Stop Rising” mantra continuing to drive the team, Sundowns will be aiming to turn their recent setback into a positive response against AmaZulu.
