South African football icon and former Bafana Bafana midfielder Doctor Khumalo has been appointed vice-chairman of the South African Football Association (SAFA) Technical Committee.
His appointment follows the association’s Ordinary National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Sunday.
The meeting was the first gathering of the new NEC since the SAFA Elective Congress held in Midrand on Saturday, 12 September 2026.

SAFA president Dr Danny Jordaan confirmed that several committees had been appointed, including the Technical, Finance, Schools and Competitions committees, among others.
Meanwhile, NEC member Lebogang Riet confirmed that he had withdrawn the criminal complaint he lodged against SAFA chief executive officer Lydia Monyepao on the eve of the elective congress.
Riet said the complaint had arisen during the campaigning period ahead of the congress, adding that it was time for the association’s leadership to move forward and prioritise the development of football.
“We had this discussion, and we had a discussion even prior to the NEC where we admitted that a lot of things were done in the way they were done. But we agree that it was campaigning. We had a campaign period, and that is it. We have to put SAFA first, and that is the most important thing,” he said.

“There’s a new NEC, there is a newly elected president, and we must support the growth of football.”
Riet also confirmed that he had withdrawn the complaint, which had circulated widely on social media.
“Yes, the matter as it was, yes, the agreement is to withdraw the matter,” he said.
In a separate matter, North West representative Jack Ramorei told NEC members that he had never opened a police case against a fellow committee member.
The NEC meeting followed a two-day induction workshop hosted by SAFA in partnership with FIFA at the same venue.
The workshop was aimed at familiarising newly elected NEC members and SAFA senior management with key aspects of football administration and governance.
The sessions covered several topics, including governance, financial governance, leadership, the Forward Development Programme and women’s football.
