Mamelodi Sundowns have officially announced the departure of attacking midfielder Neo Maema, ending a successful four-year spell at Chloorkop. The 28-year-old joined the Brazilians from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2021.
In his time with the club, Maema amassed an impressive haul: 4 league titles, 1 Nedbank Cup, 1 MTN8 trophy, and the historic African Football League crown. He made 120 appearances, scored 13 goals, and provided 14 assists.
Renowned for his creativity, vision, and ability to unlock defences, Maema played a key role in some of Sundowns’ biggest moments over the last four seasons. His versatility and work rate made him a favourite among supporters.
Beyond club football, Maema is currently captaining Bafana Bafana in the ongoing CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), underlining his leadership qualities and status as one of South Africa’s most influential players.

In a heartfelt message, Sundowns thanked Maema for his contribution, describing his tenure as “four incredible years” and wishing him success in the next chapter of his career. While his future destination is yet to be revealed, interest is expected both locally and abroad.
