As the world marks World Sight Day today under the global theme “Love Your Eyes”, the spotlight falls on a sporting story that demonstrates the power of inclusion, resilience and opportunity beyond the pitch.
The DP World Lions Blind Cricket team has been crowned 2026 BCSA Premier Division champions, providing a timely opportunity to celebrate the players, their journey and the impact of blind cricket both on and off the field.
More than a game, blind cricket creates a platform where players can develop confidence, build meaningful connections and access new opportunities through sport. Their success is a powerful reminder that vision impairment does not define a person’s potential.
Observed annually on the second Thursday of October, World Sight Day raises global awareness of blindness and vision impairment and highlights the importance of accessible eye care.
The day forms part of the ongoing “Love Your Eyes” campaign led by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), which advocates for accessible, available and affordable eye health services for all.

This year, the DP World Lions Blind Cricket team’s championship achievement offers a powerful sporting perspective on that message showing what can be achieved when people are given the opportunity, support and platform to thrive.
From the cricket field to the wider community, their story is one of determination, belonging and possibility a reminder that when barriers are removed, talent can take centre stage.
