Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has announced a refreshed and forward-looking squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Panama national football team, with several notable inclusions and returns.

South Africa will face Panama on the 27th and 31st of March 2026, with matches set to take place at Moses Mabhida Stadium and DHL Stadium.

Among the headline selections is the return of Themba Zwane, alongside Jayden Adams and Thapelo Maseko, adding experience and depth to the squad. Their inclusion signals Broos’ intent to strike a balance between continuity and building for the future.

A notable addition is a goalkeeper from Sekhukhune United F.C., as Broos addressed concerns over a lack of depth in the goalkeeping department. The Belgian tactician emphasized the need to develop the next generation between the posts, particularly as he looks toward life beyond Ronwen Williams.

We have a shortage of goalkeepers, and it’s important to start grooming the next one who will take over.

Broos explained, highlighting succession planning as a key priority within the national setup.

Broos also provided insight into his tactical vision, particularly regarding rising star Relebohile Mofokeng. The coach made it clear that he sees Mofokeng thriving in a central attacking role rather than out wide.

Mofokeng is not a winger; he is a number 10 and more impactful in that role. I am looking forward to him taking over after Themba Zwane.

Reflecting on the team’s performance at the Africa Cup of Nations, Broos credited discipline as the cornerstone of their success. He stressed that player selection goes beyond performances on the pitch, placing equal importance on professionalism and lifestyle.

The performance at AFCON was based on discipline. A player’s attitude and the way they conduct themselves outside football also influence selection.

With a blend of experienced players and emerging talent, Bafana Bafana’s squad for the Panama friendlies reflects both immediate ambition and a clear eye on the future.
