The semi-finalists of the COSAFA Women’s Championship 2025 have been confirmed following a dramatic conclusion to the group stages.
Group A: Malawi Edge Angola, Banyana Held
In Group A, Malawi secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Angola at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium to finish second in the group.
Hosts South Africa, who had already sealed qualification, were held to a 1-1 draw by Lesotho at Seshego Stadium but still comfortably topped the group with seven points.
Malawi’s narrow win saw them finish on six points, but it was not enough to earn a semi-final place as only the best runner-up across the groups advances.
Group B: Zambia and Zimbabwe Advance
Group B delivered decisive results as Zambia beat Eswatini 2-1, while Zimbabwe edged Botswana 1-0.
The victories saw Zambia finish top of the group, with Zimbabwe securing their place in the semi-finals as the best runner-up after accumulating seven points.
Group C: Namibia Through as Mozambique and Madagascar Exit
In Wednesday’s final Group C clash, Mozambique defeated Madagascar 2-0 at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. However, the result was not enough to send either side through.
Despite the win, both Mozambique and Madagascar were eliminated, allowing Namibia, who had completed their fixtures earlier in the week to progress to the semi-finals from the three-team group.
Semi-Finals Set for Friday
The tournament now moves to the knockout stage, with both semi-finals scheduled for Friday, 27 February 2026 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Zambia will face Namibia at 12h00, before hosts South Africa take on Zimbabwe at 15h00 in what promises to be a thrilling afternoon of women’s football in Polokwane.
With the title within touching distance, the stage is set for two high-stakes encounters as the region’s top teams battle for a place in the final.
