Princess Magogo Stadium hosted four DStv Diski Challenge fixtures over the weekend, with plenty of goals and KZN action across Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday got underway with Durban City FC facing Mamelodi Sundowns, where Sundowns claimed a 4-2 victory. Durban City showed character after coming back from 2-0 down to level the match through Aphelele Zondi and Mdlalose, but a late brace from Siyabonga Mabena and a stoppage-time goal from Mlondo secured the points for Sundowns.
In the second match, AmaZulu FC edged Lamontville Golden Arrows 2-0 in a tightly contested KZN derby. Andiswa opened the scoring in the 60th minute, with AmaZulu eventually securing a clean-sheet victory.
Sunday’s action saw Richards Bay FC beat Milford FC 2-0. Luyanda Mthembu gave the Rich Boyz an early lead before substitute Ayabonga Madida doubled the advantage in the 84th minute with an impressive individual effort.
The weekend closed with an entertaining clash between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, with Amakhosi claiming a 3-2 win. Neo Bohloko struck twice before Msimango added Chiefs’ third, while Ngwenya and Nzimande’s penalty brought Pirates back into the contest. The Buccaneers pushed for an equaliser but Chiefs held on for the win.
With 13 goals scored across the four fixtures, Princess Magogo Stadium provided an action-packed weekend as the DDC season got underway.
