Defending champions the UCT Ikey Tigers delivered a ruthless attacking performance as they dismantled the UJ Orange Army 88–28 in a one-sided Varsity Cup encounter.

The Cape Town side produced a dominant display from start to finish, running in an incredible 11 tries to overwhelm UJ, who struggled to cope with the relentless attacking barrage from the defending champions.

UCT wasted little time asserting control of the match, moving the ball quickly through the hands and exploiting gaps in the UJ defence. Their high-tempo style paid dividends as they crossed the try line repeatedly in the opening half, putting the Orange Army under immense pressure.

UJ attempted to fight back and managed to score tries of their own, but they had no answer to UCT’s clinical finishing and structured attacking play. Every time the Johannesburg outfit looked to build momentum, the Ikey Tigers responded with another wave of attacks.

By halftime, UCT had already established a commanding lead, leaving the Orange Army with a mountain to climb in the second half.

The defending champions showed no signs of slowing down after the break. Their forwards laid a powerful platform while the backs produced slick handling and pace out wide, allowing UCT to continue piling on the points and stretching the scoreline even further.

Despite moments of resistance from UJ, the match ultimately belonged to the visitors as they maintained their dominance across the park, outscoring their opponents convincingly.
The emphatic 88–28 victory reinforces UCT’s status as one of the strongest teams in the competition and serves as a warning to the rest of the field in this season’s Varsity Cup campaign.

For UJ, it was a tough night at the office as they were left searching for answers after being comprehensively outplayed by the reigning champions.
