Golden Arrows secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Sekhukhune United in a tightly contested encounter at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday evening, with a late goal proving the difference.
Arrows made a few notable changes to their starting lineup, handing a start to Nhlanhla Gasa while Ayabulela Maxwele also returned to the side. Sekhukhune, meanwhile, named an unchanged XI. The adjustments brought energy and balance, though clear-cut chances remained limited for large parts of the match.
The game looked destined to end goalless as both sides battled in midfield and struggled to break each other down. Sekhukhune showed discipline at the back, while Arrows kept probing for an opening, making key substitutions in the second half to shift momentum.
The breakthrough finally came in the 82nd minute when substitute Sabelo Sithole found the back of the net. Having come on earlier in the second half, Sithole made an immediate impact, timing his run well and finishing calmly to hand Arrows the lead.
Reflecting on his match-winning contribution, Man of the Match Sabelo Sithole expressed his delight after the final whistle:
“It means a lot to me and to us, as we want to stay in the top eight. It gives us confidence.”
Despite late pressure from Sekhukhune, Arrows held firm to see out the match and claim all three points.
The victory sees Golden Arrows move into 8th position on the log, while Sekhukhune United remain 5th.
Both teams will return to action after the FIFA break, with Arrows set to face Orlando Pirates away on 07 April, while Sekhukhune United travel to take on AmaZulu FC on 06 April.
