The inaugural Mafori Cup was officially launched on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, at the Protea Hotel Ranch Resort in Polokwane, with organisers unveiling a four-team pre-season tournament aimed at preparing the professional clubs in the province for the new campaign.

The launch began with a moment of silence in honour of the late Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder Jayden Adams, who recently passed away.

The tournament will feature Polokwane City, Sekhukhune United, Venda Football Club and Magesi Football Club, with all matches taking place at Seshego Stadium on Saturday, 25 July.

The semi-final draw produced two mouth-watering fixtures. Polokwane City will take on Sekhukhune United at 09:00 in an all-Betway Premiership encounter, while Venda Football Club face Magesi Football Club at 11:00 in an all-Motsepe Foundation Championship clash. The winners will meet in the final at 15:00.

Organisers confirmed there will be no extra time, with tied matches going straight to penalties.

The champions will lift the Mafori Cup trophy, receive gold medals and R250,000 in prize money. The runners-up will earn R150,000 and silver medals, while the two losing semi-finalists will each receive R100,000.

The tournament is backed by Mafori Group as the main and title sponsor, with support from Romans Pizza, MoFlair as the official apparel and technical sponsor, Shine Bright Entertainment, and the Polokwane Municipality, which is hosting the event at Seshego Stadium.

Tickets are priced at R50 and are available online at www.maforigroup.co.za and www.maforitickets.co.za, or at Mafori Group branches in Polokwane, Mokopane, Groblersdal, Ṱhohoyanḓou and Tzaneen.

The organisers believe the Mafori Cup will become a key fixture on Limpopo’s football calendar by offering quality pre-season competition while showcasing the province’s football talent.
