Polokwane City have opted to host Kaizer Chiefs at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium despite the New Peter Mokaba being available for usage. SportsZone understands.
The New Peter Mokaba Stadium is yet to host an official Premier Soccer League match this season and this publication has established reasons behind the delays.
These delays have seen the MTN8 first-leg semi-final between Sekhukhune United and Orlando Pirates played at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium last month.
The Polokwane Municipality official has opened up on a delayed usage of the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in the ongoing 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.
Manager of Sports and Recreation at the municipality Mantlhanko Sebako revealed to FARPost that the stadium underwent Pitch rehabilitation on the off-season and the extended coldness in the province has delayed the Pitch Rehabilitation process.
We need to concede that the weather was a bit uncomfortable for us to start and complete our [Pitch rehabilitation] project,” Sebako told FARPost.
Sebako went on to divulge that the 2010 stadium is now ready for utilization at the moment as it has successfully undergone the pitch rehabilitation process.
I must just state that without any fear of contradiction, this pitch is more that the word ready. We can guarantee any match at anytime even if it’s tomorrow.” Sebako Said
Polokwane City will host Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in a Betway Premiership encounter with kick-off set on 15:00 PM.
