Polokwane City claimed derby honours with a 2-0 victory over Magesi FC in a competitive Polokwane clash.
The visitors struck first in the 24th minute when Simon Ramambu found the back of the net, giving City the early advantage. Magesi looked to respond immediately, but Samuel Darpoh missed a chance two minutes later, while Nkwe also failed to convert in the 30th minute.
Goalkeeper Chipezeze proved instrumental, producing a crucial save as early as the third minute before making another massive stop in the 35th minute to keep the deficit at just 1-0. Darpoh came close again before halftime, striking the woodwork in the 44th minute after a deflection.
In the second half, Magesi made a triple change in search of an equaliser, but clear opportunities remained limited. Raphadu missed a chance in the 69th minute as the hosts struggled to break down a disciplined City defence.
The result was sealed in the 73rd minute when Thabang Matuludi converted from a set-piece to double the advantage and put the contest beyond reach.
Polokwane City saw out the closing stages comfortably, securing a deserved derby victory.
