The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has once again suspended matches at uMhlathuze Stadium for four weeks due to concerns over the playing surface.
According to reports, the decision follows an inspection that found the pitch did not meet the required standard. Rehabilitation work will now be carried out before a follow-up inspection determines whether the venue can host PSL fixtures again.
Despite the suspension, the league has allowed Sunday’s Betway Premiership fixture between Richards Bay FC and Polokwane City to proceed because of the short notice. Milford FC’s Motsepe Foundation Championship clash against Siwelele FC on 12 August will also go ahead as scheduled.
The temporary closure is another setback for football in the City of uMhlathuze, with Richards Bay FC and Milford FC likely to await further communication regarding their home fixtures should the stadium remain unavailable beyond the four-week period.
