FC Ravens were crowned 2025/26 SAFA Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League champions after edging Old Grey FC 1–0 in a tense provincial playoff final at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London on Saturday afternoon.

A decisive strike from Samkelo Ngcungama proved to be the difference in a tightly contested encounter, as the Inland Stream winners held firm to secure victory and book their place in the national playoffs.

After 18 rounds of provincial stream football, it all came down to a single match and Ravens delivered when it mattered most. Known for their attacking intensity, they showcased a more disciplined side in the final, combining defensive solidity with moments of sharp attacking quality to break down a resilient Old Grey outfit.

Old Grey, champions of the Coastal Stream, remained true to their identity with a compact and well-organised approach, frustrating Ravens for long periods. However, they were unable to find an equaliser after falling behind, as Ravens managed the game effectively to see out the result.

This triumph comes after a turbulent period for FC Ravens. Although they had initially qualified for the national playoffs after being crowned Eastern Cape provincial champions in June 2025, they were later excluded, alongside the Limpopo representative due to unresolved court cases that cast doubt over the legitimacy of the competition.

Sinenkani FC had challenged the legitimacy of Ravens’ provincial title, resulting in court orders that suspended matches and created uncertainty around the competition.

The victory marks back-to-back provincial dominance for FC Ravens, who now shift their focus to the SAFA ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs, where the stakes are even higher. A place in the final would secure promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, bringing them one step closer to professional football.
