Regina Ntaye is using decades of experience in coaching, administration, officiating and player development to help strengthen grassroots netball in the Free State.
Ntaye currently serves as the Free State Provincial Manager for PEP mini Netball under South African Schools Netball (SASN), where she helps create opportunities for young players, coaches and officials to develop within the sport.
Her career has included several leadership roles in school and federation netball, including serving as Chairperson of the Mangaung Metro Secondary Schools netball structure, the Free State Schools netball body and the Southern Free State Federation Netball Association.
She also serves as a SASN Director of Umpires and executive committee member, a Free State executive member and project convenor, as well as a Netball South Africa (NSA) Umpires Course Presenter. In this role, she conducts Level One to Three umpire courses and oversees gradings up to national level.
Ntaye’s experience extends beyond South Africa. She has participated in the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa (COSSASA) Games in Namibia and Zimbabwe as an umpire and team manager, while representing SASN at the International Singapore Schools Tournament in 2024.
Through PEP mini Netball, Ntaye now focuses on developing the sport from the foundation phase, working with players from as young as seven. As Provincial Manager, she guides Primary Chairpersons across the Free State’s five districts in organising four annual festivals supported by PEP and assists provincial umpire convenors with courses and gradings.
My journey in netball has shown me that for the sport to grow, we have to invest in every part of the game, from the young players starting to the coaches, umpires and administrators supporting them,” said Ntaye.
“PEP mini Netball allows us to take that development right back to the grassroots, where we can build strong foundations and give young girls a positive start in the sport.”
For Ntaye, the programme represents another opportunity to strengthen the pathways that support the next generation of netball players, coaches and officials.
