Richards Bay FC took on Sekhukhune United at Princess Magogo Stadium in a five-goal affair that ended 3-2 in favour of the visitors.
It was a first start for Siyabonga Gumede in the Rich Boyz starting XI.
Sekhukhune took an early lead in the 10th minute when Mokoena found the back of the net. Mabuya was on the clearance line but failed to keep the ball out, with the goal awarded to Mokoena despite the clearance attempt.
Richards Bay went into the break trailing 1-0.
The Rich Boyz looked for a way back after the restart, with Moses Mthembu missing an opportunity in the 50th minute.
Eight minutes later, Mcineka came close to an equaliser with a header, but Richards Bay were unable to find the breakthrough.
Nqaba Xulu nearly levelled things up in the 62nd minute after getting past Melusi, but his effort struck the post.
Sekhukhune doubled their advantage in the 72nd minute through Ndongani, who produced a fine finish to make it 2-0.
Richards Bay responded almost immediately. In the 76th minute, Nqaba Xulu pulled one back from a free-kick delivered by Moses Mthembu.
Xulu was on the scoresheet again in the 84th minute, completing his brace after rounding the goalkeeper and finding the back of the net to make it 2-2.
The comeback was short-lived, however, as Rammala restored Sekhukhune’s lead in the 89th minute after a mistake from Mtshali, who had come off his line.
Richards Bay could not find another equaliser before the final whistle, with Sekhukhune leaving Princess Magogo Stadium with a 3-2 victory.
Elsewhere, AmaZulu FC travelled to the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium to face Polokwane City at 17:30.
AmaZulu got off to a fast start, taking the lead in the fourth minute through Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya.
Ngwenya headed home from a free-kick delivered by Nkosikhona Radebe, taking his tally to eight goals this season and continuing his run as Betway Premiership’s leading goalscorer.
Polokwane came close to finding an equaliser in the 44th minute, but their effort struck the post.
AmaZulu held onto their advantage for the remainder of the match to secure a 1-0 victory.
