Richards Bay FC booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 KZN Premier’s Cup after defeating Durban City 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time on Saturday afternoon.
The Rich Boys took the lead in the 43rd minute after Mahala was brought down inside the penalty area. Moses Mthembu stepped up and confidently converted the resulting spot-kick to give Richards Bay a 1-0 advantage.
Durban City found their way back into the match in the 60th minute through an own goal by Lindokuhle Zikhali. The equaliser came after a well-worked attacking move involving Maseko and Sifumba, with the pressure ultimately forcing the Richards Bay defender to turn the ball into his own net.
With neither side able to find a winner, the match went straight to a penalty shootout, where Richards Bay held their nerve to claim a 5-4 victory and advance to the semi-finals.
Thulani Gumede was named Man of the Match after an impressive performance as the Rich Boys kept their hopes of lifting the KZN Premier’s Cup alive.
