AmaZulu FC delivered a breathtaking second-half performance to dismantle Chippa United 5-1 in a Betway Premiership clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Usuthu started brightly and nearly opened the scoring in the first minute when Athini Maqokolo’s effort deflected behind for a corner, though the resulting set-piece came to nothing. Maqokolo remained a constant threat, forcing goalkeeper Dumisani Msibi into a fine save with a powerful long-range strike in the 14th minute.
Despite AmaZulu’s early dominance, it was Chippa United who struck first. In the 35th minute, Azola Matrose unleashed a superb effort from just outside the box to hand the visitors a surprise lead.
AmaZulu responded emphatically before halftime. Maqokolo rose highest in the 44th minute to head home the equaliser. Barely a minute later, Usuthu turned the game on its head when Siphamandla Zikhali capitalised on a defensive error to give the hosts a 2-1 lead at the break.
The home side took full control after the interval. Maqokolo nearly added his second in the 71st minute when his shot struck the woodwork, but he would not be denied for long. Three minutes later, he found the net again to extend AmaZulu’s lead to 3-1.
Chippa’s defensive struggles continued as AmaZulu punished every mistake. Mathloko added a fourth in the 79th minute following another costly error, before Thabiso Kutumela sealed the emphatic victory with a fifth goal deep into stoppage time.
It was a commanding display from AmaZulu, marked by attacking intent, resilience, and clinical finishing. Head coach Arthur Zwane will be particularly pleased after his pre-match demand:
“I want goals, I want goals.”
His players delivered in style .
