The Orange Army secured a win at home and gave debutants FNB Emeris a welcoming of fire in a 100 point back and forth battle in Jozi to the delight at the UJ Stadium
Orange Army dominated the second half, scoring seven tries to Emeris’ four, with Ughan Africa, Reuven Ferreira, and Thabang Mphafi leading the charge.
Emeris, the newly promoted team, gave UJ a run for their money in the first half, leading 21-19 at the break thanks to tries from Nkazimulo Mzolo and Jacques Marais. However, UJ’s firepower proved too much in the end, with Nicallen Gabrielsen orchestrating the comeback with a commanding display.
Off the field, the electric “Varsity Cup vibes” were impossible to miss. From Hoepie’s lively sideline antics to the MC keeping the crowd fully engaged, the sold-out encounter once again showcased why the Varsity Cup is regarded as a top-tier sporting spectacle.
Although FNB Emerus produced moments of promise, the evening ultimately belonged to the home side, who rose to the occasion in front of their passionate supporters.
