Orlando Pirates secured a commanding 3–0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs to claim Soweto Derby bragging rights with a composed and clinical performance.
Both sides made key changes in their lineups. Chiefs included Bruce Bvuma and Ethan Chislett, while Pirates included Thalente Mbatha.
Pirates struck early in the 4th minute when a corner caused confusion in the box, and after a deflection, Tshepang Moremi found the net. Chiefs had a chance to respond in the 32nd minute following a mistake from Sipho Chaine, but Deon Hotto cleared the danger.
Oswin Appollis doubled the lead in the 38th minute to give Pirates control before halftime. The Buccaneers were forced into a change when Mbatha left the field injured and was replaced by Masindi Nemuṱanzhela.
Evidence Makgopa came on in the 69th minute and made an immediate impact, scoring a header nine minutes later to seal a comprehensive 3–0 derby victory.
The win cements Pirates’ dominance in the derby this season, while Chiefs will need to regroup and address the missed opportunities if they hope to challenge again.
