South African rugby celebrated its brightest stars and key contributors at the prestigious SA Rugby Awards, where the 2026 winners were honoured for their exceptional performances and impact on the game.
The ceremony, organised by SA Rugby, recognised excellence across various categories, from elite international players to emerging talents and influential figures who continue to shape the sport in the country.
Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx walked away with the coveted SA Rugby Men’s Player of the Year award after another dominant season for the South Africa national rugby union team. Known for his powerful presence at the breakdown and leadership on the field, Marx played a crucial role in the Springboks’ success during the season.
In the women’s category, dynamic playmaker Nadine Roos was named SA Rugby Women’s Player of the Year following a series of standout performances for the South Africa women’s national rugby union team. Roos continues to be one of the most influential figures in the growth and success of women’s rugby in South Africa.
Rising stars were also recognised on the night, with Ethan Hooker named Young Men’s Player of the Year, highlighting his rapid development and impressive performances. Meanwhile, promising talent Byrhandré Dolf secured the Young Women’s Player of the Year honour, underlining the exciting future of women’s rugby in the country.
The Team of the Year award went to the South Africa national rugby union team, recognising the Springboks’ continued dominance and consistent performances on the international stage.
Head coach Rassie Erasmus was named Coach of the Year for his leadership and tactical brilliance, further cementing his legacy in South African rugby. Erasmus also received the prestigious Springbok Legacy Award, acknowledging his lasting impact on the national team.
Additional honours included the President’s Award, which was presented to Gavin Varejes for his significant contribution to the sport, while Springbok captain Siya Kolisi received the Spirit of ’95 Award, celebrating individuals who embody the unity and inspiration associated with South Africa’s historic 1995 Rugby World Cup triumph.
