Kaizer Chiefs claimed a hard-fought 1–0 victory after a disciplined performance in a tightly contested encounter, with a second-half goal proving enough to separate the sides.
Chiefs started the match on the front foot and nearly broke the deadlock in the 31st minute when defender Inacio Miguel threatened from a set-piece situation. The hosts continued to probe for openings, with Bradley Cross providing attacking intent from wide areas.
Both sides returned from the break looking to change the tempo of the game. Chiefs made their first adjustment in the 46th minute, introducing Ashley du Preez in place of Asanele Velebayi to add more pace in the attacking third.
Further tactical changes followed as Siphesihle Maseko replaced Junior Kamatuka, while promising youngster Mfundo Vilakazi came on for Wandile Duba shortly after the hour mark.
The decisive moment arrived in the 69th minute when Glody Lilepo found the back of the net after being set up by Vilakazi. The move was well worked, with Vilakazi providing the assist for Lilepo to finish calmly and hand Chiefs the lead.
The match grew increasingly physical in the closing stages as the opposition pushed for an equaliser. Siyabonga Ndlovuwas booked before being substituted, while Chiefs also made late changes including the introduction of Gastón Sirino.
Despite late pressure, Chiefs remained compact defensively and managed the game well to see out the remainder of the match and secure a valuable 1–0 victory.
The result ensures that Amakhosi walk away with all three points after a disciplined display highlighted by Lilepo’s decisive second-half strike.
