The Basketball Africa League tipped off in thrilling fashion on opening night, delivering high-scoring action, standout individual performances, and early statements from emerging contenders.

In one of the most exciting games of the night, Rwanda’s RSSB Tigers pulled off an impressive 103–95 victory over Libyan giants Al Ahly Libya. The Tigers showcased their offensive firepower in a fast-paced encounter, led by a sensational performance from Leonard Randall II, who poured in 37 points. He was ably supported by Teafale Leonard Jr, as the duo combined for 64 points to steer their side to a memorable win.
Despite a strong showing from Donovann Williams, who finished with 28 points for Al Ahly, the Libyan side struggled to contain the Tigers’ relentless attack. Dominating the paint, Mathiang Ayub delivered a historic performance on the boards, hauling in an incredible 25 rebounds to underline his influence on both ends of the floor.
Earlier in the day, Tanzanian debutants Dar City announced their arrival in emphatic style with a commanding 100–70 win over South Africa’s Johannesburg Giants. Dar City controlled proceedings from the outset, overwhelming their opponents with pace, precision, and scoring efficiency.
Leading the charge was Nisre Zouzoua, who delivered an outstanding 35-point performance, while David Michineauadded 27 points in a dominant offensive display. The Johannesburg Giants were unable to match Dar City’s intensity, particularly on the defensive end, as the gap widened throughout the contest.

Speaking after the game, Nisre Zouzoua,shared that:

With both games producing 100-point performances and breakout individual displays, the opening night of the BAL season has already set a high standard. The early results not only highlight the growing competitiveness of the league but also signal the emergence of new contenders eager to make their mark on Africa’s biggest basketball stage.
