FNB UP-Tuks delivered a clinical and well-structured performance to secure a convincing 51–22 victory over FNB UJ at the UJ Stadium in Johannesburg on Monday.
The Pretoria-based side laid a solid foundation in the first half, showcasing attacking precision while keeping the hosts under pressure with disciplined defence.
Orange Army made an early statement when Tholithemba Sibisi crossed the line in the seventh minute to open the scoring in the left corner. JT Kapank soon added a penalty to stretch the hosts’ lead to 8–0, putting Tuks briefly on the back foot.
However, the visitors responded swiftly and decisively. Winger Andile Myeni combined effectively with Christiaan Volk, who powered over for Tuks’ opening try. Momentum quickly shifted as Jacques Oberholzer followed up with another, giving Tuks control of the contest.
Tuks continued to assert their dominance, with Obi adding his name to the scoresheet before eighth-man Akhona Kunene bulldozed over to cap off an impressive first-half display. By halftime, Tuks had surged ahead with a commanding 32–15 lead.
The second half proved to be a tighter, more tactical affair, with both sides battling for control and limiting scoring opportunities.
Tuks extended their advantage in the 56th minute when replacement scrumhalf Akha Mjawule dotted down, further widening the gap. UJ responded with a well-worked team try, finished off by Jeandre Uithaler, but it was not enough to shift the momentum.
Late tries from Dillon Smith and Munashe Dukuswa put the result beyond doubt, sealing an emphatic victory for Tuks.
The result highlights Tuks’ attacking depth and composure, as they continue to assert themselves as strong contenders in the competition.
