Netball South Africa (NSA), in partnership with the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), has officially announced the 12-player squad that will represent Team South Africa at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
The prestigious multi-sport event will take place from 23 July to 2 August, with South Africa aiming to make a significant impact on the international stage.
Head coach Jenny van Dyk expressed confidence in the selected squad, highlighting the extensive process undertaken to identify the best combination of players for the competition.
We are confident that the team we have selected will represent our country well. Within our extended squad we have exceptional players that have put in the hard work over the past couple of seasons. They are ambitious and eager to represent South Africa, which is why a lot of time and diligence has gone into the selection process to ensure we considered all our options and selected the players who fit into the game plan, objectives and mandates of the assignment at hand, said Van Dyk.
The squad features a blend of experienced internationals and emerging talent, with players currently competing both domestically and abroad. During the Commonwealth Games, the team will compete under Team South Africa and not under their traditional SPAR Proteas identity.
The selected squad comprises Khanyisa Chawane, Kamogelo Maseko, Tarle Mathe, Owethu Ngubane, Refiloe Nketsa, Karla Pretorius, Nicola Smith, Rolene Streutker, Elmere van der Berg, Jamie Golob, Karla Victor and Sanmarie Visser.
Netball South Africa President Mami Diale congratulated the team and wished them success ahead of the Games.
โWe would like to wish Coach Jenny, her management team and the entire squad everything of the best as they head to the Commonwealth Games. We have full confidence in them, and we know they will do their utmost best to represent the country well. As we hand them over to SASCOC, we do so with pride, knowing that this is our best team for this task and that they will represent us and the country at large with distinction,โ said Diale.
Netball South Africa has extended its best wishes to the players and management as they prepare for the challenge ahead, with further information regarding team departures and broadcast arrangements expected to be announced in the coming days.
