Newly Appointed Magesi FC Director of Football, Morgan Mammila has set his sights on an immediate return to the Betway Premiership after the club unveiled its new technical team ahead of the 2026/27 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.
The Limpopo club confirmed Kabelo Sibiya as head coach, with Rene McCarthy appointed as video analyst, Nkosinathi Shongwe as fitness coach and Aubrey Vilakazi as goalkeeper coach.
Speaking at the unveiling in Polokwane on Friday, Mammila apologised to supporters following the club’s relegation and vowed to restore Magesi to the top flight.
I want to apologise to our supporters. We have a plan. We are going to work hard to make Magesi FC the pride of the province again. Our target is to return to the PSL because Limpopo deserves to have clubs competing at the highest level.”
Sibiya, meanwhile, moved quickly to end speculation over the future of club captain Elvis Chipezeze, confirming the veteran goalkeeper will remain at Magesi despite reports linking him with a move away following relegation.
The 36-year-old Zimbabwean international has been one of the club’s most influential players since joining from Baroka FC in 2022. He helped Magesi secure promotion to the Betway Premiership in 2024 and was named Man of the Match in every fixture during the club’s historic Carling Knockout triumph, including the final victory over Mamelodi Sundowns.
While confirming Chipezeze’s future, Sibiya said discussions regarding the remainder of the squad are still ongoing.
I am not at liberty to announce the players. There are still some players with contractual discussions going on, so I can’t confirm which players will remain or will be leaving the club. I was just mentioning Chipezeze because he is one of the players that we will be retaining. The club will make a statement at the right time regarding who is staying and who is leaving.”
The new coach also expressed confidence that the core of the current squad has the experience required to guide the club back to the Premiership at the first attempt.
Some of the players promoted the club when it was in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, so they give me confidence because they have done it before. Some have promoted other clubs as well. We still have players like Chipezeze around the club. We know their leadership and experience.”
Sibiya added that he wants Magesi to play an attractive brand of football while pursuing promotion.
“We want the people of Limpopo to identify with our brand of football. At the same time, we want to take the football club back to the Premier League. We know it’s not going to be easy, but with the support from management, we are determined to achieve that.”
Magesi believe the new technical team and football leadership structure will strengthen the club’s football operations as the Dikwena begin their campaign to secure an immediate return to the Betway Premiership.
