Milford FC produced a spirited second-half comeback to defeat Richards Bay FC 2-1 in the second semi-final of the KZN Premier’s Cup at Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday morning, securing their place in the final.
The eagerly anticipated uMhlathuze Derby got off to a tense start, with both sides battling for control before Richards Bay FC broke the deadlock six minutes into the second half. Former Milford striker Nqaba Xulu found the back of the net in the 51st minute to give the Natal Rich Boyz the advantage.
Milford responded positively and restored parity in the 60th minute through Siyabonga Masielele, before Mvelo Zikakayo completed the turnaround just five minutes later with a well-taken winner to put the Stallions 2-1 ahead.
Richards Bay’s hopes of mounting a late comeback suffered a major setback in the 74th minute when Thembela Sikhakhane was shown a red card, reducing the Betway Premiership side to ten men.
Milford held firm for the remainder of the match to seal a memorable derby victory and advance to the KZN Premier’s Cup final, where they will face AmaZulu FC.
Zikakayo’s impressive display, capped by the winning goal, earned him the Man of the Match award.
