The University of Limpopo (UL) will look to get its 2026 Varsity football campaign back on track when it visits the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) this coming Friday, 14 August 2026, at Wits Stadium in Johannesburg.

UL suffered a disappointing result in their opening game of the 2026 IyaChesa campaign, falling to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Durban University of Technology (DUT) last Friday in front of their home crowd at Oscar Mpetha Stadium.

Meanwhile, the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) played to a goalless draw in their opening round against the University of Western Cape (UWC), at UWC Sports Stadium in Western Cape last Friday.

However, the University of Limpopo captain Reggy Masebe has called on his teammates and supporters to remain confident as the side looks to turn around its fortunes and get a win under their belt this Friday.

It’s not about how you start, but it’s about how you finish. We have to have a winning mentality, and we have to have a strong mindset,” Masebe said to Varsity Sports.

The captain went on to urge his teammates to maintain a strong mentality and remain focused throughout the remainder of the campaign.

It’s still early, our supporters must still have hope that we’re going to bring the results that they want,” he added
