University of Limpopo Varsity Football campaign suffers yet another setback after falling to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the University of Johannesburg on Friday.

UL have now recorded three defeats in the campaign after a 2-0 defeat in the opening match against Durban University of Technology.

Before being hammered 3-0 by the University of Witwatersrand in the following week away at Wits Stadium.

Both teams showed attacking intent in the first half, going at each other with UL looking likely to break the deadlock as they were dangerous on the break.

Thetho Mohale nearly opened the scoring for UL in first-half stoppage time after being through on a 1 v 1 situation but was denied by UJ’s solid defensive clearance.

The match headed to the half interval goalless as both sides were resolute in their defence and maintained strong defensive discipline to keep each other at bay.

Tshepo Masieleng eventually broke the deadlock later on the 64th minute with a well-placed curler to the bottom left corner to beat Mosa Mabitsela and hand UJ the lead.

The match dragged on until the final action of the encounter, when UJ doubled their lead with the last touch of the game to secure maximum at home turf.

The University of Johannesburg maintains their grip at the top of the 2026 Varsity Football standings after securing three wins in three games to top the standings with 9 points.

Meanwhile, the UL remains at rock bottom after three defeats out of three matches, and they have conceded seven goals in three matches and have yet to find the back of the net.
