Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Fawaaz Basadien has credited consistency, belief and a positive mindset for his impressive run of form this season as the Brazilians prepare to face Siwelele in a Betway Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday.
Basadien has established himself as an important figure for Sundowns after remaining patient and ready for his opportunity.
I think it’s just a matter of consistency, as well as the belief I’ve shown throughout my time here. Things haven’t always gone the way I wanted them to, but my belief, mindset, positive attitude and approach kept me going,” Basadien said.
“When I was given the chance, I had to step up and take it, and I think I did that.”
The defender knows the challenge now is to maintain his current standards while continuing to improve.
“It’s about putting in consistent performances now to maintain that level and even raise it,” he added.
Sundowns Refuse to Give Up
Sundowns’ never-say-die mentality has been evident in their recent performances, and Basadien believes their ability to fight until the final whistle is one of the team’s biggest strengths.
That is one of the strengths we have as a team always grinding out results and maintaining that positive mindset and attitude to never give up. We play until the last minute, no matter what the scoreline is or what is happening in the game,” he said.
Basadien says the team’s patience and persistence have allowed them to continue creating opportunities, even when results appear uncertain.
We knew that eventually we were going to create a chance, and it was important for us to take that chance. I think that’s one of the key aspects we have as a team to keep going until the last minute.”
Focus on Their Own Game
With Siwelele heading into the encounter after a defeat and with a new coach set to take charge, Basadien expects possible changes from their opponents but insists Sundowns will remain focused on their own approach.
To be honest, the new coach may implement some of the things the players were used to under the previous coach. But I think it’s important for us to stick to what we want to do and focus on what we want to achieve, which is victory,” he said.
The left-back added that Sundowns’ priority will be to continue improving as a team and execute their plans on the pitch.
