Orlando Pirates will host Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the MTN8 semifinal at Orlando Stadium on 16 August, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00.

The Buccaneers haven’t had the best start to the season, but as reigning MTN8 champions and proven cup specialists over the years, they remain a force to be reckoned with. On the other hand, Mamelodi Sundowns are coming in strong as the reigning Betway Premiership champions and are known for their consistency and depth.

This won’t be the first time these two giants clash in an MTN8 semifinal. In 2022, the first leg at Orlando Stadium ended in a goalless draw. However, Pirates came alive in the second leg at Peter Mokaba Stadium, dominating the game with a 3-0 win, courtesy of a goal from Kermit Erasmus and a brace from Monnapule Saleng, securing their spot in the final with a 3-0 aggregate victory.

“We are just preparing, and that’s where good performances and confidence come from,” said Pirates Assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi during the team’s final preparations for the clash.
Sundowns, meanwhile, appear focused and ready, stating in their pre-match post: “Locked in and fired up for our #MTN8 semi-final clash!”

The venues for the second-leg fixtures have also been confirmed. Mamelodi Sundowns will host Orlando Pirates at Lucas Moripe Stadium, while Sekhukhune United will face Stellenbosch FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
