Cape Town City had appealed an earlier PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) decision, arguing that Marumo Gallants fielded midfielder Monde Mpambaniso without a valid clearance certificate being issued to the League ahead of the 2024/25 season.

As first reported by SABC Sport, the public broadcaster has seen the SAFA arbitration ruling in favour of Cape Town City Football Club. The matter has now been referred to the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) Disciplinary Committee (DC), and if the ruling is upheld, City could be reinstated to the Betway Premiership.

Mpambaniso played in 26 league matches last season. The issue stems from an administrative error during his re-registration, following Gallants’ sale of their NFD status to Leruma United and subsequent acquisition of Moroka Swallows’ top-flight status.

The PSL is still investigating, and if Gallants are found guilty, they could forfeit points from all matches in which Mpambaniso featured, potentially leading to their relegation.

As a result, the official start of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season may be delayed, with clubs awaiting a final decision from the League.
