Durban City marked a historic milestone with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Rukinzo FC in their first-ever CAF Confederation Cup fixture at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Played under rainy conditions in Durban, the encounter was tightly contested in the opening half, with both sides struggling to find a breakthrough. Durban City, however, showed greater attacking intent and had the better numbers going forward as they looked to make their continental debut a memorable one.
The home side continued to push after the break, eventually finding the breakthrough in the 66th minute.
Gaston Sirino appeared to put Durban City ahead after finishing from a cross delivered by Samkelo Maseko. However, the goal was ultimately recorded as an own goal, giving the hosts the lead.
Rukinzo attempted to respond as the game entered its final stages, but City held firm to protect their advantage.
