Dr Danny Jordaan has been re-elected as President of the South African Football Association (SAFA) , securing a convincing victory at the association’s Elective Congress in Midrand, Johannesburg, on Saturday.
Jordaan received 157 votes, defeating challenger Sandile Zungu, who received 82 votes, to secure another term at the helm of South African football.
The Congress was held under the observation of FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), COSAFA and SASCO, with representatives from various football stakeholders, including the Premier Soccer League and football legends, also in attendance.
Following the outcome, FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe called Jordaan to congratulate him on his re-election. They also congratulated the newly elected members of the SAFA Executive.
Jordaan said the new leadership would build on the progress made over the past four years, with the implementation of Vision 2030 remaining a key priority.
He pointed to South Africa’s progress in women’s football and refereeing, as well as the performances of the national teams, as evidence of the association’s development programme.
Banyana Banyana are currently ranked second in Africa, while Bafana Bafana are ranked 10th on the continent. South Africa’s Under-20 side are African champions, while the Under-17 national team recently competed at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.
The newly elected SAFA leadership will now turn its attention to several upcoming programmes and competitions, including the CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations/COSAFA qualifier in Mozambique, Bafana Bafana’s 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea, the SA Under-23 programme, the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup in Azerbaijan, the FIFAe World Cup, coaching education and the Hollywoodbets Super League.
