Wanga “Messi” Khorommbi has earned another opportunity to prove himself at the professional level after joining Magesi Football Club from newly promoted African By Choice (ABC) Football Club.
Khorommbi arrives at Magesi following a standout campaign with the Lions of the North, playing a key role in their historic promotion-winning season.
The midfielder helped ABC FC win the SAFA Vhembe Men’s Regional League Champ of Champs before starring in the SAFA Limpopo Inter-Regional Playoffs, where the club secured promotion to the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League.
His performances did not go unnoticed. Khorommbi was named Player of the Tournament in both competitions, underlining his influence throughout ABC FC’s remarkable campaign.
The move to Magesi gives Khorommbi another chance to establish himself in the professional ranks, having previously been involved with Venda Football Academy, now Venda Football Club.
His initial move into the professional setup was complicated, however, after he was announced by both Venda Football Academy and Black Leopards at the same time. Following a settlement between the two clubs, Khorommbi was cleared to represent Venda Football Academy.
He later returned to the Vhembe football scene, where he represented several clubs, including United Artists and Vondwe XI Bullets, among others.
Khorommbi also has a proven record of helping teams achieve promotion. In 2021, he played an important role as United Artists secured promotion from the SAFA Vhembe Men’s Regional League to the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League.
His latest promotion success with ABC FC adds another achievement to his growing résumé, while his back-to-back Player of the Tournament awards further highlight his quality.
Magesi will be hoping Khorommbi’s promotion pedigree rubs off on the team as they look to make a quick return to the Betway Premiership after being relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of last season.
For Khorommbi, the move represents another chance to turn his impressive regional form into a sustained professional career, while Magesi will be hoping his experience and winning mentality can help drive their promotion ambitions.
