Polokwane City came from behind to secure a dramatic 1–1 draw against Chippa United in a tightly contested clash that came alive in the second half at Buffalo City Stadium on 11 April 2026.
Polokwane City started on the front foot and nearly opened the scoring as early as the sixth minute, when Thabelo Tshikweta directed a header goalward from Tholo Matuludi’s delivery, only for Chippa goalkeeper Dumisani Msibi to produce a fine save and tip the effort over the bar.
Chippa United gradually grew into the contest, finding their attacking rhythm and taking control of proceedings. Their pressure eventually paid off as they created several dangerous chances before breaking the deadlock shortly before halftime.
Chippa took the lead in the 43rd minute when Moleboge Modise broke the deadlock, finishing off a well-worked move assisted by Sinoxolo Kwayiba to give the visitors the advantage.
The Chilli Boys looked set to claim all three points as they managed the game well into the closing stages. However, late drama unfolded when Polokwane City were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes. Rodney Maphangule stepped up with composure and converted from the spot in the 86th minute, rescuing a crucial point for Rise and Shine.
Chippa United defender Abbubaker Mobara told SABC Sport that consistency remains a key area of focus as the team battles to avoid relegation.
The result sees both sides share the spoils in a match where Chippa will feel they let victory slip, while Polokwane City can take confidence from their late resilience.
Looking ahead, Polokwane City continue their push for a top-eight finish and will host Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday. Meanwhile, Chippa United, who have shown signs of improvement after struggling near the bottom of the table, will travel to take on AmaZulu FC.
