Recently promoted Motsepe Foundation Championship side North-West University (NWU) Football Club will play its home matches for the first half of the 2026/27 season at the NWU Fanie du Toit Sports Ground in Potchefstroom while renovations continue at the Mahikeng Campus Sports Ground.

The temporary relocation was confirmed by the university in a media statement, saying the move is necessary to allow for the ongoing upgrade of the Mahikeng facility.

According to NWU, the renovations form part of the university’s long-term investment in world-class sporting infrastructure for student-athletes, supporters and the broader community. The club is expected to return to the Mahikeng Campus once the project is completed and all required approvals have been obtained.

Despite the temporary venue change, the university reaffirmed that NWU FC remains firmly rooted in Mahikeng, where its football programme has been developed over many years.

As the club prepares for its historic debut season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, NWU has called on supporters from all three campuses and beyond to rally behind the team during this transition, expressing confidence that the upgraded facility will enhance the match-day experience and serve as a lasting legacy for future generations.
