Netball South Africa has confirmed the SPAR Proteas squad for the 2026 Africa Netball Cup, which will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, from 19 to 26 September.
South Africa head into the tournament as defending champions after claiming the title in both the men’s and women’s sections last year.
Following the team’s participation at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, SPAR Proteas head coach Jenny van Dyk has opted to rotate the squad, with several senior players being rested. The tournament will provide an opportunity to assess new combinations and strengthen the team’s depth ahead of the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney.
The selected squad consists of Rolene Streutker, Nonsikelelo Mazibuko, Kamogelo Maseko, Owethu Ngubane, Kyla Dames, Karla Victor, Refiloe Nketsa, Sanmarie Visser, Thulisile Maduna, Nozipho Ntshangase, Juanita van Tonder and Tinita van Dyk.
Sanelisiwe Ntobela, Phophi Nematangari and Luca Keun have been named as non-travelling reserves, while Maseko has been appointed captain for the tournament.
Netball South Africa president Mami Diale said the Africa Cup presents Van Dyk with an ideal opportunity to rotate the squad while developing the depth and capacity of the national team.
We have full confidence in the coach and the team selected. We believe they will perform well and make us proud,” said Diale, adding that South Africa’s objective is to successfully defend its title.
Van Dyk echoed those sentiments, saying the tournament will allow the technical team to assess players who were not part of the Commonwealth Games squad and experiment with different combinations.
Building depth is what we are aiming for and it is very important for us,” said Van Dyk.
The SPAR Proteas will assemble in Johannesburg on 14 September before departing for Nairobi on 16 September.
