Mamelodi Sundowns continued their impressive run in the Betway Premiership with a convincing 4-1 victory over Richards Bay FC at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban, strengthening their position at the top of the league table.
Masandawana arrived in Durban as league leaders and delivered a dominant performance, showcasing their attacking quality from the opening whistle.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when Ndlovu provided the assist for Tashreeq Matthews, who found the back of the net to give Sundowns a 1-0 lead.
Matthews continued his fine form after being named Man of the Match in the MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium the previous Saturday.
Richards Bay responded in the 28th minute, with Lwandile Mabuya finding the equaliser to bring the score to 1-1 and give the home supporters hope.
However, Sundowns regained the lead in the 37th minute when Matthews turned provider, setting up Iqraam Rayners to make it 2-1.
Rayners struck again shortly after the restart, completing his brace in the 47th minute to extend the visitors’ advantage to 3-1 and put Sundowns firmly in control.
The Brazilians continued to threaten going forward, and their fourth goal arrived in the 59th minute. Teboho Mokoena supplied the assist for Fawaaz Basadien, who finished to make it 4-1 and seal a comprehensive victory for the visitors.
The match was played without major disciplinary incidents, with Sundowns receiving the only yellow card of the encounter.
Basadien’s contribution was rewarded with the Man of the Match award following his performance, which included a goal.
The result keeps Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the Betway Premiership standings, while Richards Bay remain in 15th position as they look to improve their league campaign.
