The Vodacom Bulls bounced back strongly from their defeat to the Stormers last weekend with an impressive victory over Cardiff Rugby at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
The Vodacom Bulls produced a powerful all-round performance to secure a comprehensive 40-7 victory over Cardiff Rugby in their United Rugby Championship clash in Pretoria.
The hosts started with intent and were rewarded early when hooker Johan Grobbelaar powered over for the opening try, setting the tone for the afternoon. Flyhalf Handré Pollard added the extras to give the Bulls an early advantage.
Cardiff responded with a try of their own through Mason Grady, briefly levelling the scores, but that would prove to be their only real highlight of the match.
The Bulls quickly reasserted control, with their forward pack dominating the collisions and set pieces. This pressure translated into further points as the home side added more tries before halftime, building a healthy lead heading into the break.
In the second half, the Bulls shifted into another gear. Canan Moodie showcased his pace and finishing ability with a well-taken try out wide, while Kurt-Lee Arendse added another after a slick attacking movement.
The dominance continued as Marcell Coetzee barged over from close range, capping off a relentless display from the Bulls’ pack. Pollard remained accurate from the tee, converting consistently to extend the lead.
Cardiff struggled to gain any foothold in the match, with the Bulls’ defence shutting down attacking opportunities and forcing errors at crucial moments. The visitors were kept scoreless in the second half as the home side controlled territory and possession with ease.
The Bulls’ growing momentum in the competition, with both their attack and defence firing in unison. Cardiff, meanwhile, will need to regroup after a tough outing on South African soil.
