Kaizer Chiefs were defeated by Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Kotoko triumphed 3-2 in a thrilling penalty shootout after the match ended 0-0 following the regulation 90 minutes.

The game was filled with opportunities, but neither side could capitalize. In the 13th minute, Lilepo had a long-range effort that bounced just in front of Kotoko goalkeeper Mohamed Kamara, but he gathered it with ease.
Amakhosi were awarded a penalty after a foul, and team captain Miguel had the responsibility to take it. However, he was unable to convert, and the game continued without a goal.

With no winner after 90 minutes, the match went to a penalty shootout. Mdu Tshabalala and Gaston Sirino scored for Chiefs, but Wandile Duba, Pule Mmodi, Miguel, and McCarthy all missed their penalties. In contrast, Asante Kotoko converted three out of their six attempts, securing a 3-2 victory and clinching the win in the penalty shootout.
