Sekhukhune United bolster squad with four signings as Cardoso extends stay

Sekhukhune United have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season by announcing the signings of Oageng Phiri, Thabang Mahlangu, D’Angelo Kazeem and the permanent return of Nyiko Mobbie, while experienced defender Daniel Cardoso has extended his contract with the club.

Phiri joins after impressive performances for Highbury, while Mahlangu arrives as one of South Africa’s promising young talents, having represented the national Under-20 side and recently earned a call-up to the Under-23 Olympic Qualifier camp. Kazeem, meanwhile, makes the move from Venda Academy after establishing himself as a regular at left-back.

Sekhukhune have also secured the permanent return of Mobbie, who previously enjoyed a successful spell with Babina Noko between the 2021/22 and 2023/24 seasons. During that time, he established himself as one of the Premier Soccer League’s standout defenders, earning senior national team call-ups and helping South Africa secure a third-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

In addition, the club confirmed that veteran defender Cardoso has signed a contract extension. Since arriving in the 2022/23 season, the experienced centre-back has been a key figure in the squad, providing leadership, consistency and experience both on and off the pitch.

The latest additions and Cardoso’s renewal underline Sekhukhune United’s intent to strengthen their squad as they prepare for the upcoming Betway Premiership campaign.
